Dundee City Council's LibDem Planning & Transport Convener, Cllr Fraser Macpherson, today (Tuesday 7th August) welcomed a proposal to extend a pilot partnership for maintaining roads and pavements in Dundee,
A report to next Monday's City Council Planning and Transport Committee recommends that the partnership between the council and Tayside Contracts be extended for two years and further developed.
Committee convener, Councillor Fraser Macpherson, said, "The partnership was introduced two years ago with the aim of improving and making more efficient the road maintenance service in the city.
"It has already shown that there are real advantages to be had from working together, such as being able to plan maintenance programmes well in advance so that any disruption is kept to a minimum with work carried out at the most appropriate time of the year.
"A street lighting partnership between the council and Tayside Contracts has been a big success, generating a high-quality service with lower costs, and that is the type of outcome that is being looked for with the roads initiative."
The report to committee states that further areas of potential development have been identified, including a joint working group to rationalise winter services standing charges; the potential use of ash waste from the Baldovie waste to energy plant in bituminous mixes and a review of current procedures for dealing with potholes with a view to moving to first-time "permanent" repairs.
